The Moon stays out of the way this weekend. New Moon is at 2:02 a.m. EST on Nov 9, and on Saturday night the Moon is only 2% lit and below the horizon all night. Full darkness begins at about 6:18 p.m. both nights.
Saturn (magnitude +0.5, in Cetus). Saturn is the planet for the evening. At full dark it is 30° up in the east-southeast. It is highest at about 9 p.m., 50° up due south, and it sets around 3:30 a.m. Any small telescope shows the rings, though they are still narrow this year.
Jupiter (magnitude −2.0) and Mars (+0.8), in Leo. Neither planet is an evening object yet. Mars rises at about 11:27 p.m. and Jupiter at about 11:45 p.m., 3° apart in the east-northeast. Look after 1 a.m., once they have climbed clear of the horizon. Jupiter is by far the brighter of the two, and Mars is the orange point beside it.
Dawn bonus. Venus rises at about 4:45 a.m. in the east-southeast, before twilight begins at 5:00.
All times are EST, computed with Skyfield 1.55 and DE421 for 40.7°N, 74.0°W.
